I purchased the Oregon 73-016 Paddle Set for my MTD E-295 Snowblower. It has given me great service for 6 years, and receives annual storage and engine maintenance. This year I found my belt was ready to break, and replaced it with a factory belt because they have fabric on the sides to act as a clutch. The paddles showed significant wear, so I replaced them, but it is a cheap set I had purchased a year ago. I drilled out the four rivets, then I drilled 1/4 hole for 1/4x3/4 bolts and stop nuts. The original factory hardware cleaned up nicely in some CLR so I could reuse most of it. I replaced the 1/4x1/2 Carriage bolts on the shave plate, flipping it to its other side. I almost put it back upside down, corrected it. Use anti-seize. Follow factory adjustment procedures. I added one inch fender washers to most paddle screws for under $2 (Grade 2 common) because the cheap paddles I put on it were only one layer of fabric ply, and feel brittle. The fender washers won't let the bolts/screw pull through. The original MTD paddles were 5 ply, significantly thicker. This Oregon set is 3 fabric ply, the rubber fairly supple. I bought it as the NEXT replacement, figuring the one ply will not last long... The Oregon paddles will probably work ok, just not as long as the 5 ply MTD. These paddles are better than the cheapies, but not as thick/strong as the factory part, hence the 3 star rating (one star per fabric ply). I HOPE my one-ply replacement lasts a season, but I don't have faith in that, so I ordered the Oregon set. If all else fails, I will hang onto the original (worn, but some life left) factory paddles just as insurance. the paddles fit like the original and wasn't that hard to do. It took about an hour, had to use a drill to remove the rivets and replaced them with some nuts & bolts

I bought this and it appears to be a good replacement part, I originally tried to get one from MTD and they wanted some outrageous price like $75 or something similar, I have a 2002 model and these paddles installed and fit directly onto my particular model. Only thing I noticed is that mounting holes are a little larger than original ones on my old paddle, so I bought some stainless steel washers, for about $2 to make sure the mounting screws did not eventually pull through the new rubber paddle because the mounting holes were a little bit larger than the ones on the old paddles. With additional washer installed, it works like a champ and I do 3 driveways, and had record snowfall this winter 2010, working great for less than 1/2 the price of ordering direct from MTD.
