I've been on a waffle kick lately. Mainly eating waffles from a local restaurant. I decided to shop around and find my own belgian waffle maker. Finally, because of the quality and reputation of the manufacturer I decided on this one. I read the reviews...the good, the bad & the ugly but felt the Cuisinart reputation out weighed the negative comments. Unfortunately, I was wrong in this instance. The first thing that shocked me was that there is no power on/off switch. It simply plugs in and powers on. I did not like this feature because I have a habit of never plugging in appliances without them being in the off position first. When I went to plug it in I saw blue and orange from the connection and that initially scared me. I moved the unit to another outlet in the kitchen and tried it there.
After setting the unit to what reviews recommended 3.5 I waited for it to pre-heat. It beeped when ready. I poured the batter in, spread out and closed the unit. I was extremely disappointed after the unit beeped alerting me that my waffle was done and saw that it had not browned evenly. Why was I disappointed? Because other reviewers had posted the same issue and here I was in my kitchen experiencing the same thing. I decided to cook a second batch and the same thing. Okay, deciding not to be defeated by the waffle iron. I decided that I knew the correct amount to fill the waffle iron. So, I made another batch. Spread the batter faster and I'll be darn...the same thing. Parts were browned beautifully and the corners were puffy white.
Although I love Cuisinart I decided to return it and I also returned the one I purchased as a wedding gift as I didn't want the new bride to have the same issues and will look for a better browning unit.

I bought this, as many others did, despite the negative reviews about the evenness of cooking. Many other reviewers said they had no issues with it because they followed the directions. Well, we just made our first batch, and they came out perfectly -- just like the ones we used to get from our round Belgian waffler. We seasoned it by spraying it with nonstick spray, plugged it in, poured the batter in and spread it over the surface of the bottom iron plates, then lowered the lid and set the browner to 3. The waffles came out perfect, baked all the way through, evenly browned. We're so happy we took a chance on this one!

I got this waffle iron even though some of the reviews aren't the greatest here. However, following the instruction book I have ONLY made perfect waffles! They are yummy and not a "dark spot" to be found.

I couldn't wait to try it out so bought some of the cheapest waffle mix up at the local grocery store. And it still came out GREAT!

I'm getting hungry just thinking about them.

It makes a very large amount of waffles (I put some of them in freezer bags and they still tasted great later).

One couple of big pluses for this maker is the different lights and the sound that dings both when it's ready to cook and when your waffles are fully cooked.

I can't say anything bad about this waffle maker.

It even has a 3 year warranty.
